Our journey

Since 2017, Velv has been dedicated to building nearshore teams for clients around the world. The journey started in February, and by August of the same year, we had to find a bigger office. After one year, we had two huge floors in the center of Lisbon, and during 2019, we opened a small office in Porto. Our engineering teams were expanding, as were our nearshore partnerships, so we refreshed one of our floors in Lisbon. This office was completely prepared for different kinds of teams, with security doors, double ISP connections for redundancy, physical firewalls, and more.

By then, Velv always had a relaxed home office policy, and most people could work from home some days of the week. Then Covid came, and we enforced home office for all. Thankfully, since we were prepared for a remote/home office setup, this transition was very easy with no real downtime or performance downgrade from either our engineering teams or our internal departments. That was a big sign for us, a sign that we could go bigger and expand even more.

After several years of growth and, more importantly, establishing Velv as a top nearshore player in Europe, we expanded to Brazil in 2023 with local operations to support our growth. This year, we entered big and started our operation in the Netherlands, supporting our large client base in the Benelux area.

What it means to be in Lisbon

Our HQ in Lisbon is also our main nearshoring center, where our teams deliver to our partners and clients around the world and where they gather throughout the year. However, we’ve found Porto to be surprisingly growing with local teams and nearshore teams. Establishing our nearshoring teams in Lisbon and Porto allows us to offer more flexibility and expand our area of work. Even though most people work remotely nowadays, it is important to offer our own spaces for those who prefer or choose to work there. Every time our clients visit us, it is guaranteed that we’ll always welcome them, and, more importantly, we work together.

By having the possibility to set up nearshoring teams in Lisbon and Porto, our clients have the opportunity to grow as well. Our teams are indeed remotely theirs. Practically all our clients have exponentially grown since they started a nearshore collaboration with us. This is because they get things done in a much easier way; they are able to share responsibilities and relieve the burden of recruiting, managing, payroll, etc. The advantages are many, but the one that is guaranteed is an enriching experience by mixing teams from different countries and cultures, with different experiences and backgrounds. In the end, it’s a win-win-win for all. And of course, both Lisbon and Porto are incredible places to work and live, so there’s also that.
